On November 13th, the Department of Education Sciences of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP) and the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE) organise an event in tribute to Steve Stoer, entitled “Steve Stoer’s place in Education Sciences”.
Two decades after the passing of Professor Stephen R. Stoer (1943-2005), the Department of Educational Sciences decided to honour his academic and institutional work. Within the University of Porto, he distinguished himself as co-founder of the degree program in Educational Sciences and as founder and director of the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE), as well as the journal Educação, Sociedade e Culturas of the FPCEUP (Faculty of Psychology, Education and Cultures of the University of Porto).
The relevance of Stephen Stoer's academic contribution (also known as Steve Soer among his colleagues) far exceeded the limits of the University of Porto, where he developed his professional career. Through his publications and training activities, he trained and collaborated in the training of numerous researchers and teachers, assuming a central role in the consolidation of the Sociology of Education in Portugal. As important as marking the date is, it is crucial to emphasise the continued relevance of his work and actions.
The event will take place in Auditorium 1, starting at 2:00 PM, and will feature several distinguished guests.
Free entry upon registration HERE.
