Amélia Lopes participated in a report in the newspaper Público entitled Há 50 anos a escola abriu-se a todos e estes professores construíram-na” [50 years ago the school opened to everyone and these teachers built it], published on October 4th.

The report was based on the FYT-ID research project coordinated by Amélia Lopes, which gave rise to the book 50 anos de Docência em Democracia – Histórias de Inovação e Persistência [50 Years of Teaching in Democracy – Stories of Innovation and Persistence], launched on September 29th at FPCEUP, published by da Editora Afrontamento.

The book brings together around 100 testimonies from teachers at different levels of education, highlighting their commitment to pedagogical innovation and the construction of an inclusive school.

Público highlights the central role of teachers in building democratic schools in Portugal, especially in the years following the Carnation Revolution. Among the testimonies presented is that of Amélia Lopes, who emphasises the transformative nature of education in the post-April 25th era and the pioneering role of kindergarten teachers in implementing public preschool in Portugal.
