Mariana Rodrigues Participates in Safer Internet Day Event with Focus on Tackling Cyberbullying Among Young People

As part of the Safer Internet Day 2026 celebrations, marked on February 10, Mariana Rodrigues took part in the Seminar on Human Rights and Cyberbullying promoted by CISLAB – Cybersecurity Laboratory, joining the panel dedicated to reflection and action on aggressive behaviours in digital contexts.

The event brought together experts, students, and representatives from various institutions, aiming to promote a safer, more informed, and more responsible use of the Internet. This year, particular emphasis was placed on the impact of cyberbullying and the protection of human rights in online environments.

Mariana Rodrigues participated in the panel entitled “From Diagnosis to Action: Understanding, Preventing and Acting,” where she highlighted the importance of understanding the digital dynamics that foster aggressive behaviours, underlining the need for integrated prevention strategies involving schools, families, and policymakers.

The debate also included representatives from the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, the Portuguese Association for Victim Support (APAV), the National Confederation of Parents’ Associations, and the University of Minho, and was moderated by Madalena Baeta (APAV). The session underscored the importance of articulating academic research, practical intervention, and public policy in promoting safer digital environments.

Throughout the afternoon, the programme featured contributions from national and international experts, the presentation of the first results of the qualitative EU Kids Online study, video testimonies from young people about their online experiences, and the launch of a new Linha Internet Segura chatbot, reinforcing the commitment to digital tools for support and awareness-raising.

Mariana Rodrigues’ participation reinforces the commitment of CIIE and the University of Porto to applied research and social intervention in critical areas, such as cyberbullying, thereby promoting a digital culture grounded in respect, dignity, and the protection of human rights.
