The Centre for Research and Intervention in Education of the University of Porto (CIIE-UP) expresses its deepest condolences on the death of Cristina Nogueira, a kindergarten teacher and researcher at this research centre during the 2000s.
Cristina Nogueira holds a PhD in Education Sciences from FPCEUP with the thesis "De Militantes a Clandestinos: Práticas e Processos de Formação na Clandestinidade Comunista (1940‑1974)" [From Militants to Clandestines: Training Practices and Processes in the Communist Underground (1940-1974)]." She developed highly relevant work in the areas of collective memory, oral history, and informal education processes in the context of resistance to the dictatorship. At CIIE, she also participated in several research projects, including "Memórias do Trabalho: processos de construção de uma identidade operária no Porto" [Memories of Labour: Processes of Constructing a Working-Class Identity in Porto] and "Universidade Popular do Porto: Uma Instituição à Margem do Sistema" [Popular University of Porto: An Institution on the Margins of the System]. She will be remembered at CIIE for her academic and civic commitment to education, historical memory, the history of workers and social movements, and social justice.
She was currently continuing her research on public policies related to the memory of the dictatorship as part of the Institute of Contemporary History at NOVA FCSH.
