TeachersMOD Future Elementary School Teachers Modernization in Kurdistan

Future Elementary School Teachers Modernization in Kurdistan: In Kurdistan region of Iraq, students enrolled at public elementary schools are educating by elementary school teachers whose 90% of them are graduates from colleges of Basic Education of the HEIs in Kurdistan.

The Basic Education colleges in Kurdistan are the main provider of the primary school teachers in the region. The current teaching staff at our primary schools are 75% graduates of the Basic education colleges and 20% are graduates from two years teacher preparing institute which is equivalent to the secondary school. The TeachersMOD project aim to enhance the capacity of the Basic education Faculties in each Partner institutions with the final outcome to improve the general regional standard of primary education.

The project builds on two assumptions: the first relates to education’s pivotal role in the society to the fulfilment of human rights, peace and responsible citizenship from local to global levels, and the second relates to the digital transformation as embedded in teaching, learning, and work. Universities, therefore, need to increase their capacities at two levels: 1) updating and reviewing curricula towards a student’s -centres approach; and 2) pedagogies based on active methods integrating participative and innovative components.

For this reason, TeachersMOD seeks to contribute to modernise and improve the quality of teaching, by innovating teaching methodologies, by curricula reviewing and by reinforcing the competences of university staff in the Basic Education Colleges and the Pedagogic Centres in the HEIs from Kurdistan region of Iraq.

Let's Meet to Know Each Other through Our Great Cultures

This partnership involves nine schools in the project entitled “Let’s Meet to Know Each Other through Our Great Cultures.” It aims at encouraging students and teachers from around Europe to work together in order to know each other better and prepare a better future for all. Exploring our cultural similarities and diversity should help us promote intercultural dialogue in our schools and local communities. Partner countries will share their experiences and ideas through different areas of research. The most important topics we will study are all the partner countries’ special days&occasions, famous people, home life&school life, traditional foods, traditional games, traditional stories/fairy tales/legends and traditional dances. Our students will also express their ideas/hopes/wishes about the European country in their dreams. Moreover, they will write/act a drama about friendship, sing a song about happiness, compose a song about the future of the children. They will use not only English but also all partners' languages. Another step will deal with voluntary work and intergenerational solidarity. Our students should become aware of the importance of giving their time to others and creating closer links with the older generations. What’s more, we will work on what can be done for a green world. Studying these issues should convince our students that they must and are able to actively contribute to preparing a better future for all by getting to know each other through their cultures now. Students and teachers will be stimulated to develop their language, ICT, research, organizational and social skills as well as their artistic and creative abilities. Self-involvement, active European citizenship, eco-friendly habits and European solidarity are the values we share.

Similarity in Variety

In our multilateral project “Similarity in Variety” we aim to give young people opportunities to study life skills and competencies for their personal development in becoming practically active European Citizens. As it would be understood from the topic of the project that , although we have variable methodologies or patterns of education , we all have the similar aim; that is to have our pupils learn best. There is a saying that “If You Don't Feed the Teachers, They Eat the Students; If You Don't Feed the Students, They Starve”. Therefore; Pedagogy, Curriculum and Culture provides an overview of the key issues and dominant theories of teaching and learning as they impact upon the practice of teachers. Engaging in this project, each school will be able to provide the opportunity for their staff to work with colleagues from partnership schools in both their home environment and partners’ environments. We aim to ensure as many pupils and teachers as possible in the activities undertaken by the partnership. Comparing the main techniques , methodologies and pedagogies used in our own lessons , we aim to have a much broader point of view in all kinds of education. Thorough investigation and research with ICT, we will disseminate our findings with local authorities, citizens and participant schools.
