LabDERE – Laboratory for Digital Experimentation and Research in Education

CIIE’s Laboratory for Digital Experimentation and Research in Education (LabDERE) a laboratory for the development and dissemination of methodologies and knowledge in education with a focus on digital technologies, their possibilities and challenges, pursuing intersections with areas of social intervention and the arts. Its work has been built around three main axes: 

  1. The co-construction of knowledge and methodological innovation around ethics and critical literacies on the presence and use of digital technologies in education. With a focus on emerging technologies (AI, gamification, big data, among others), as well as digital methodologies, digital citizenship and digital participation, it contributes to the training of education professionals, but also to methodological innovation in the field of education both in terms of data collection and analysis, combining the potential and characteristics of the digital with those of critical methodologies and methodologies involving artistic practices.
  2. The communication and dissemination of science through various digital formats to potentiate the knowledge produced in the different projects and initiatives, and their impact. The focus will be on exploring the possibilities of open and innovative forms of digital publishing and digital audio and video media (that may involve a documentary approach, taking advantage of intersections with artistic practices, and of working with narratives, particularly interactive digital narratives).
  3. The creation of a networking dynamic of collaborative work involving existing educational spaces with a strong focus on digital and on emerging technologies (e.g. Rooms of the Future) in the northern region of Portugal, bringing the work of the laboratory closer to multiple community contexts of educational intervention and deepening its involvement in practices of co-creation of digital education and digital citizenship.
