She currently coordinates the Sports, Education and Communities Observatory (ODEC, https://odec.fpce.up.pt/), hosted by the Centre for Educational Research and Intervention (CIIE). Framed in the work developed at the Observatory (ODEC), she is PI of the Play4life Project: Young Athletes as Activists in Sport (CIIE, support for investigation projects). She has been working as an external consultant for the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN, Portugal) in the development of a national study with children. She is a Psychologist as an initial degree (since 1995) and has a PhD. in Educational Sciences (since 2013). Since 2017 her involvement in research gains another meaning and becomes more active when she decides to dedicate herself exclusively to her academic career. Her research focuses on citizenship education and children and adolescent civic and political participation, particularly the links between contexts of education (e.g. schools and sports organizations) as societal microsystems and participatory citizenship contexts, and children and young people's civic and political development. Integrating her domains of research she has been involved in European research projects funded by the European Commission's Erasmus + Program, Norte 2020 - FEDER, HORIZON-2022- STAYHLTH. She has already made significant contributions to the field of citizenship education and children's civic and political participation, by publishing books and articles as the first author in top-tier journals, such as Journal of Moral Education, Educational & Child Psychology, Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy and Education and Training. She has presented on the subject at several international conferences in Europe. At FPCE UP, FADE UP, FC UP and ESE, she has lectured several curricular units in the initial training and master courses, and she has an extensive experience in the guidance of the academic and professional internship and the (co) orientation of thesis in master and doctoral degrees and she has been integrated into Jury in public Master's Exams (national and international). Also, she has been integrated into teams (as a member of the team or as coordinator) in developing Community Intervention Projects (most of them with national funds) and in the Organization in Training, Scientific and Sports Events. PRO(F)LITERACY - Competence Based Development Programme for Financial Literacy.

The new “adult” generations face difficulties in shaping their future, especially with regard to the pursuit of personal and financial independence and the exploration of new professional directions.
Indeed, the absence of “simple” key competences for lifelong learning and innovative and entrepreneurial thoughts and attitudes, based on empowerment and awareness-oriented financial education, is the motto for the emergence and/or perpetuity of phenomena of social exclusion, social inequality, unemployment, dependence on social systems, etc.
In this context we have identified an important and neglected social problem:
- Social exclusion arising from a set of fracturing socioeconomic problems in today's societies, related to the low level of financial literacy of families (especially young people) and the inability of systems (especially educational, social and family) in solving it.
In order to solve the social problem and the needs of young people we intend to develop a programme called PRO(F)LITERACY - Competence Based Development Programme for Financial Literacy. Focused on empowering young people and social workers who intervene daily with young people, the programme aims to promote the personal, social and professional development of new “adult” generations by developing key competences for lifelong learning and entrepreneurial thoughts and attitudes (including, in large-scale, financial literacy competences).
The programme is intended as a means of understanding individual opportunities and capacities in building the life project and responding to one's own problems and needs and enabling action, emphasizing the role of young people in building society and their own course.

ENGAGESTUDENTS Promoting Social Responsibility of Students by Embedding Service Learning into Education Curricula

The ENGAGE STUDENTS project focuses on social responsibility of higher education institutions at students and teachers level. Strengthening the social dimension in education has been an important European priority, that has been accentuated even further by the Commission in the renewed EU agenda for Higher Education. Innovative curricula and teaching approaches are seen to contribute to reduce the current high skills gap between students and labour market needs. Especially the integration of extra-curricular experience into study programs is identified as solution for enhancing students’ transversal skills, better preparing them for finding a job”. http://engagestudents.dcae.pub.ro/

The place of sports contexts, as socio-educational systems, in promoting the exercise of a participatory citizenship of children and young people: a cross-sectional analysis from basketball.

The integration of children and young people in sport contexts has been increasing under the guise of promoting health and wellness skills. On the other hand, considering a dimension of empowerment and personal and social development, sports practice has also been widely associated with the development of competencies of responsibility, leadership and critical awareness among other characteristics. Considering the sporting contexts, such as societal micro systems, which move a significant number of civil society throughout the life cycle, this study aims to understand the organization of these contexts in an ecological way (athletes, coaches, managers, families and society) and their role as spaces of non-formal education. It is aimed, therefore, to analyze the processes and educational results together of the athletes in terms of competences of civic and political participation.

CertSRA / ESSA - Certificate in University Social Responsibility Auditing

Based on the University's Social Responsibility Framework (RSU) in the European Higher Education Area, created by the EU-USR project, CertSRA / ESSA aims to certify the MSW audit process.
