Human Rights, Sport and Education
On 21 May 2026, starting at 09:00, the 4th Meeting of the Observatory of Sport, Education and Communities (ODEC) will take place at Auditorium 1 of FPCEUP, under the theme “Human Rights, Sport and Education”.
In a sociopolitical context in which human rights have gained increasing prominence in public discourse, this meeting proposes an in-depth reflection on the relationship between these three domains. The discussion will focus not only on the formal recognition of human rights, but above all on the real conditions of their implementation in educational and sporting contexts.
Based on the understanding of public schools and sport as privileged spaces for socialisation and participation, the programme is organised around two main thematic axes:
- Human rights as a condition for participation, focusing on the challenges between formal recognition and effective participation;
- Convergences and challenges between CPLP territories and European contexts, exploring tensions and articulations between international norms and local realities.
This meeting aims to contribute to a deeper debate on the ways in which human rights are recognised, framed and implemented in different institutional, political and territorial contexts.
