The LECTURE is part of the Seminar Cycle ‘Contemporary Artistic Practices in Education’ organised by the Contemporary Issues in Artistic Education curricular unit of the MCED 2024/2025 study plan - Field of Study in Artistic Education.

José Carlos de Paiva was born in Porto in 1950. Professor Emeritus at the University of Porto. Retired Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (Department of Drawing - Art Education). He has a PhD in Painting, a Master's in Multimedia Art and a degree in Fine Arts - Painting from the University of Porto - Faculty of Fine Arts. Integrated researcher at i2ADS (Institute for Research in Art, Design and Society), belonging to its Board of Directors and Scientific Committee. He coordinates the ‘Interculturality and Society’ Research Programme and is a founding member of the ‘IDENTIDADES_Colectivo de Acção e Investigação’ (ID_CAI). Anti-colonial involvement in intercultural, scientific, artistic and cultural actions with communities in Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Portugal.
