CIVITAS Seminar | Citizens' Assemblies

On 25 May, the seminar “Citizens’ Assemblies” will take place, developed within the framework of the CIVITAS Project – Bridges between Citizenship and Science for Climate Adaptation in Communities of the Northern Region.

The CIVITAS project includes, among other activities, the implementation of climate citizens’ assemblies, involving young people, adults, economic actors, activists and political stakeholders, with the aim of discussing climate-related problems previously identified within local communities. These assemblies seek to debate and propose policies and practices that promote adaptation to and mitigation of climate change.

This seminar will provide a space for debate and exchange on the concept of Citizens’ Assemblies and the challenges of their implementation, featuring facilitation by two invited professors of recognised international standing:
  • Giovanni Allegretti – Principal Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra and co-coordinator of the PhD programme Democracy in the 21st Century. His research focuses on citizen participation, participatory processes and housing policies.
  • Nenad Stojanović – Associate Professor at the University of Geneva and Vice-Director of the Centre for the Study of Democracy in Aarau (University of Zurich), with research centred on democracy and democratic innovations.

📌 Registration is mandatory and includes a commitment to prior reading.
