"Quando eu nasci aquela fábrica já ali estava - memórias, vivências e opiniões sobre o trabalho na indústria, em Guimarães"
[When I was born, that factory was already there - memories, experiences and opinions about working in the industry in Guimarães]
On 20 July 2012, at 7 pm, the book "When I Was Born That Factory Was Already There - memories, experiences and Opinions about working in the Industry in Guimarães" will be launched at the Paço dos Duques in Guimarães. The book will be presented by José Pacheco Pereira, with Maria da Luz Sampaio, author of the first chapter, "Industry in the Guimarães region", and Luiza Cortesão, the project's coordinator.
Produced within the framework of the "Community Area" of Guimarães European Capital of Culture, this book is the first in a series of five which seek to paint a picture of some of the present (and past) characteristics of Guimarães' cultural mosaic. As the title says, this first volume collects "memories, experiences and opinions about working in the industry in Guimarães", an activity that has strongly marked and continues to mark the cultural substratum of this region. The professional activities carried out weave and unite people into groups with their cultural characteristics, giving them a given identity. The world of industry and the memories that inhabit it constitute a fascinating universe that strongly marks Guimarães' cultural identity.
On the 19th, at 10 pm, the Paço dos Duques de Bragança will also host the inauguration of a photographic exhibition on the industry, as well as a screening of Laurent Cantet's film "Human Resources".
The project is being developed by the Paulo Freire Institute in Portugal (IPFP) in partnership with the Paulo Freire Resource Centre and the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE) of the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Porto.
