Scholarships for research internships in the USA - one or two semesters
Scholarships for internships lasting one academic semester (four months) or two academic semesters (eight or nine months) in the following areas:
- Exact and natural sciences
- Engineering sciences and technologies
- Medical and health sciences
- Agricultural sciences
- Social sciences
- Humanities
To strengthen the academic and scientific community, the Luso-American Foundation is launching a call for grants to fund internships at universities and research institutions in the USA.
These internships should focus on innovative scientific or technological themes. They should contribute to bringing Portuguese and US institutions closer together to increase the knowledge network between the two countries, thus facilitating the development of institutional partnerships.
Benefits of the FLAD Scholarship for Internships in the USA
• Funding up to a maximum of €1,500/month, with the amount awarded by the Luso-American Foundation based on an analysis of the cost estimate submitted by the applicant and the cost of living indicators for the region in question.
Individual or institutional applications will be accepted by the requirements set out below.
For individual applications to the FLAD Scholarship for Internships in the USA, candidates must:
- Have Portuguese nationality or be resident in Portugal;
- Have completed a university degree at the time of application;
- Be fluent in English;
- Be master's students, doctoral students, professors or researchers at Portuguese higher education institutions and/or research centres;
- Have proof that the institution where they intend to intern has agreed to the project to be developed and the respective dates of stay;
- Submit two letters of recommendation from the Portuguese institution to which they are attached to support the project to be developed under the scholarship;
- Submit a budget itemising the costs and sources of funding they have applied for or will apply for during their stay in the USA.
For institutional applications from higher education and/or research institutions or non-governmental, non-profit organisations, the person's name and the department/faculty/institute responsible must be indicated.
