There is a call for applications for a research grant for a doctoral student under the project “ProActCoP: Co-creating knowledge about/and action for change in inland regions” funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), and developed at the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education (CIIE) of FPCEUP under the coordination of Ana Luisa Costa.
The ProActCoP project aims to advance and share knowledge about Professional Activism education and engagement in inland regions of Portugal, anchored in the participatory experience of co-creating a Professional Activism Community of Practice. ProActCoP specifically aims to: i) map and characterise the professional activism needs and experiences of professionals/organisations working with people in situations of vulnerability in inland regions; ii) deepen knowledge about the influence of these geographical contexts on professional activist (dis)engagement, accessing needs regarding professional activism education and participation and concrete ways of strengthening these two areas; and iii) monitor and critically analyse the collective experience lived in the community of practice, exploring its educational and politicisation potential.
Admission requirements
- Master’s degree in Educational Sciences or in another area of the Social Sciences relevant to the development of the project (e.g., Sociology, Psychology) 1;
- Be enrolled in a doctoral programme in Educational Sciences. Alternatively, he/she may be enrolled on a non-degree course that is part of the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units (in this case, to be proven at the date of hiring);
- Proficient command of Portuguese language (only applicable if the candidate is not a native speaker of Portuguese, in which case he/she must submit a supporting document);
- Knowledge and experience of using qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies proven, for example, by the delivery of co-authored publications or reports;
- Research work experience as part of an academic degree or funded research project, using qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies, including the collection and analysis of empirical material; the research tasks in which the candidate was involved must be specified (submit a copy of the master's thesis and/or a statement from the project leader);
- Experience in organising non-formal education activities, particularly on topics directly related to or relevant to the project’s objectives;
- (Co-)authorship of scientific publications and/or communications in the field of education and/or other social sciences.
- Proficient command of the English language (to be assessed through the motivation letter, written in English, in accord with paragraph e) of section 11.2, and/or a certificate);
- Willingness to travel nationally, namely to develop workshops, data collection and dissemination activities (to be stated in the motivation letter).
- Immediate availability (to be stated in the motivation letter).
