The project "SINCRONY: interSectIonal iNClusion in delibeRation and participatiON with Youth" (GAP-101132459) has been approved for funding by Horizon Europe, the European Union's current Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, specifically under the topic 7 "Intersectionality and equality in deliberative and participatory democratic spaces" of the "Standing up for democracy" call (HORIZON-CL2-2023-DEMOCRACY-01). It is scheduled to start in January 2024.

In addition to the proposing institution, Alma Mater Studiorum - Universita di Bologna, the consortium also includes CIIE/University of Porto, Alda - Association Europeenne Pour la Democratie Locale, WeDo Project Intelligence Made Easysl, Aalborg Universitet, University of Turku, Universitaet Innsbruck and University of Manchester.

The CIIE team on the project is led by Isabel Menezes and co-coordinated by Sofia Marques da Silva, and also includes Pedro D. Ferreira, Carla Malafaia, Norberto Ribeiro, Joaquim Coimbra and Sofia Castanheira Pais.

The SINCRONY project aims to ensure the meaningful inclusion of young people in deliberative and participatory processes (DPP). The project focuses on the factors and processes responsible for the reproduction of political inequalities in the involvement of socially disadvantaged young people in deliberative and participatory processes based on inter- and intra-generational power imbalances and intersectional positioning of young people. The consortium of nine partners will, in particular, (a) strengthen the inclusivity of deliberative practices in two local authorities (in Italy and Finland); (b) design, test, and apply an innovative, co-constructed intersectional approach called Action Research and Intersectional Participatory Deliberation, in seven local authorities and four schools (in Italy, Portugal, the UK and Denmark); (c) design participatory formats.

Congratulations to the team!
