Sofia Almeida Santos, an integrated member of CIIE, has been selected to join the Working Group responsible for creating the European Area of Citizenship Education, whose mission will be to develop a new Framework Convention that promotes quality citizenship education in Europe, strengthening democratic principles and cooperation between Member States, in line with the European Commission's 2030 Targets.

The new Framework Convention will be presented and signed by the Ministers of Education of all the Member States in 2026. This document will have an impact on the European educational landscape, covering educational institutions across the continent.

This is an initiative led by the Council of Europe in collaboration with the members of the Education Steering Committee (CDEDU). By leading this project, the Council of Europe is reaffirming its commitment to building a democratic culture and creating an inclusive European area dedicated to education for citizenship.

Sofia Almeida Santos will work alongside renowned international experts such as Gert Biesta, Edda Sant Obiols, Nino Revishvili and Salvador Sala. Together, they will define the key concepts and the mapping of educational policies that will guide this transformative initiative.
