Sofia Castanheira Pais at the IV Seminar - The Right to Free Time, Leisure and Culture in Childhood and Youth
Sofia Castanheira Pais was a guest speaker at the 4th edition of the Seminar "Direito ao Tempo Livre, Lazer e Cultura na Infância e Juventude" [Right to Free Time, Leisure and Culture in Childhood and Youth], which took place on November 21st and 22nd, 2025, in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel Island, Azores.
Aimed at professionals and students in education, psychology, and social sciences, as well as parents/guardians, this seminar had the following objectives:
- to raise awareness among those involved about the importance of free time and leisure in childhood and youth, with a view to promoting children's rights;
- to recognise the role of culture in educational and pedagogical dynamics in the area of childhood and youth, enabling a more democratic and just education;
- to enhance the promotion of play as a tool for learning, inclusion, and personal and social development in non-formal, informal, and formal education;
- to promote innovative pedagogical practices in order to enable the educational success of the youngest children.
