The book "Learning Inclusion in a Digital Age. Belonging and Finding a Voice with the Disadvantaged", published by Springer, has just been released in open access with chapters by Ana Luísa Costa, Angélica Monteiro, Elsa Guedes Teixeira and João Caramelo (CIIE/FPCEUP) and Susana Coimbra (CPUP).
This book analyses how inclusion learning, well-being and active citizenship can be encouraged, taught, learnt and supported in a digital world. The book asks and seeks to answer three questions:
-
How can governments and intergovernmental organisations support inclusion learning and active citizenship?
-
How can the education sector and public/private companies support inclusion in learning and active citizenship?
-
How can professionals and communities work with adults in situations of vulnerability and disadvantage in a participatory and empowering way?
The examples discussed in the book are based on the experiences of adult refugees and migrants, as well as people who may suffer disadvantages and/or discrimination due to their social, economic, political, cultural, religious, physical, mental, age or gender status.
One of the methodological pillars of this work is the development of skills in the field of digital storytelling and the creation of digital stories for personal, community and professional purposes. Conceptually of interest to researchers and policymakers at local, national and transnational levels, this book brings together a series of interconnected concepts to generate innovative understanding and relevant practices applied during the pandemic and its aftermath.
