The 16th Conference of the European Sociological Association was held in Porto between 27 and 30 August. This was the largest European face-to-face sociology conference ever held. Several CIIE members were in the spotlight and actively involved in organising and participating in this event.
Carla Malafaia was a member of the Local Organising Committee responsible for the Conference's Social and Cultural Programme and was Chair, along with João Teixeira Lopes (IP-UP) and Sílvia Silva (CES-UC), of the Semi-Plenary Session ‘Culture and Education for Transforming Societies’.
Isabel Menezes was one of the Invited Speakers at one of the Semi-Plenary Sessions of the Conference, along with Pedro Abrantes (CIES ISCTE-IUL). In these semi-plenaries, the main theme of the conference - ‘Tension, Trust and Transformation’ - was discussed from different research fields. Isabel Menezes' speech was entitled ’On (political) emotions and education in contemporary democracies’.
Ricardo Soares and Joana Mesquita were part of the Local Support Team, in which they performed various roles, including the development and dynamisation of two Sociological Walks inspired by their doctoral work: ‘Thinking about democracy through the pathways of the 1974’ and ‘Walking through arts-based performances: Questioning (in)equalities’.
