European Commission highlights article published by CIIE researchers on the European School Education Platform
Cosmin Nada, Eunice Macedo, Elsa Guedes Teixeira and Helena Costa Araújo recently published a scientific article entitled Growing up in a never ending crisis: youth transitions and aspirations in Portugal in the journal Profesorado, Revista De Currículum Y Formación Del Profesorado. In this article, they analyse the impact of successive crises on the aspirations and educational trajectories of young Portuguese people. As well as identifying the problem of the instrumentalisation of education, the authors point out that young people internalise the neoliberal discourses of responsibility for their (in)success at school, disregarding the complexity of institutional and systemic factors that affect their life trajectories.
This article served as a basis for rethinking social and emotional learning in the light of current societal challenges, a reflection published by the European Commission in the European School Education Platform and is available HERE.
