PIV – Inclusion Policies and Voices: Diversity, Gender and Intersectionality

About

The research community of practice PIV - Policies of Inclusion and Voices: Diversity, Gender and Intersectionality/CIIE-FPCEUP discusses education through the lens of an agenda of sociocultural rights based on the theoretical fields of equality, diversity and intersectionality. This multi-referential framework is mobilised to explore how relations of ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, social class, spaces, and geographies, cut across educational contexts and processes (at school, training, and informal settings).

The concept of diversity itself has been interpreted differently over time. To this end contributed, on the one hand, the increasing heterogenization of population, as a result of the dilution of many borders in Europe, the massive (and tragic) migrations, and the waves of refugees. On the other hand, the concept becomes wider as it entails the coexistence of different social groups and cultures. Therefore, the inclusion of plural voices in education implies to shed light on the non-linear educational and social paths, in and out of school, where identity and sense of belonging are crucial. In addition, gender and sex studies are also relevant to the discussion of the ways in which educational spaces contribute to the social construction of masculinities, femininities, and sexual culture.

Researchers interested in citizenship and inclusion rights compose this research community of practice.
